HARLINGEN, Texas (KVEO) —Election results shows that Senator Eddie Lucio Jr. has won the Democratic Senate District 27 seat against challenger Sara Stapleton Barrera in the Democratic Party runoff election.

Lucio won 54% to 46%. Lucio will be facing Republican Vanessa Tijerina in the November general election.

Cameron County and Hidalgo County are the largest counties in State Senate District 27, which also includes Willacy County, Kenedy County, Kleberg County and part of Jim Wells County. 

The results aren’t final and will remain unofficial until canvassed.
