Second Arrest Made in Theft of AR-15 Sold into Mexico

A second arrest is made in a theft case involving an Alamo Police officer from 2014.

According to authorities Ricardo Vera was involved in the theft case where an Alamo Police officer stole an AR-15 rifle. Vera was arrested August 15 in Hidalgo County by the Major Crimes Unit. Today, Vera was arraigned in an Alamo courtroom.

Chief Baudelio Castillo – Alamo Police Department says, “This gentleman that we arrested, Ricardo Vera, was the middle man. He actually purchased the weapon from our ex officer and he actually sold it into Mexico. Once he sold it into Mexico it became a federal investigation. Now we have ATF involved.”

Vera was charged with theft and given a $15,000 bond. Police say more arrest in this case are pending.
