EDINBURG, Texas – The Edinburg CISD receiving a special gift from TXU Energy and the Texas Trees Foundation. The district was given 20 Oak trees at a special ceremony held this morning. The gift aims to provide an enhanced outdoor learning environment and will add to the district’s tree canopies. The trees will be given to five elementary schools in the district.
Gloria Alonzo, Kennedy Elementary School, “I’m excited having the trees. We do have a teacher, Mrs. Watson and her husband, who are actually going to build benches for us. We’re going to set them underneath the trees so that our students and parents can come out to enjoy the wonderful shade it would create.”
The Oak trees were chosen by the Texas Trees Foundation because of their adaptability to the south Texas climate. The trees will also provide staff and students with some much needed shade.
