PHARR, Texas – Dozens of parents of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District were honored by the City of Pharr during a U.S. Census Ambassador ceremony.

37 parents completed free classes offered through the PSJA ISD Parental Engagement Program. Honorees received certificates as well as gifts from the City of Pharr. The classes are part of a joint initiative by the school district and the city to promote the importance of the upcoming 2020 Census.

Dr. Jorge L. Arredondo, superintendent, “This is a good civic duty. A good  responsibility to be counted. We know that we have definitely given our part and worked very hard. We want to make sure we get back what is rightfully ours in terms of resources, in terms of opportunities for students and our overall community.”

Jasmine Del Angel, parent, “It’s very important we have to grow as a city to grow not only for the economic part but all the things that come together with this.”

The official census date is April 1, 2020.
