School and Workforce Commission Getting Veterans into the Workforce

Local News

South Texas College and the Texas Workforce Commission are teaming up to get more veterans into the workforce. Employers from different parts of the valley participated in an info-session at STC. They learned how to get free workforce training for post 9/11 veterans.

The initiative aims to address challenges and to train veterans so they can enter the workforce. One STC official tells us why they’re focusing on helping veterans

Carlos L. Margo – Associate Dean, Office of Industry Training said, “This is an opportunity for the state and colleges ourselves, to provide services to them. Given what they have done for our country, for us, for our communities, this is something we can do particularly for them, target them, and help them progress in their careers… And advance and get promotions out of this training.”

The Texas Workforce Commission will be spending one million dollars for this special initiative that will benefit employers and veterans.
