Santa Rosa residents petition for the return of released athletic director

Local News

SANTA ROSA, Texas — Dozens gathered outside Santa Rosa High School on Thursday to petition for the return of head basketball coach and athletic director Juan Cipriano.

This comes after the Santa Rosa ISD School Board voted to remove him his position last week despite leading the Warriors to multiple state tournaments over his 22 years with the program.

Since the decision, the #TeamCP campaign and other forms of support have surfaced with the goal of bringing back the coach.

“People wouldn’t be doing this if he wasn’t worth it. We came here because we want him to stay where he belongs. People believe in him. We all believe in him. The whole valley knows what we have. He’s a great coach, a great leader and it would be a big blow to Santa Rosa if we lost him.”

Cipriano still has the option to appeal the board’s decision, but there is no word on if he will.
