With the recent allegations involving former employees at Santa Rosa Independent School District, many parents are questioning the transparency of the school district.
“This is a time of healing, this is a time for insight,” Nick Maddox, Legal Counsel for Santa Rosa I.S.D., said.
Words used to express the sentiment the school district and the community are feeling as a whole.
“It is an opportunity to rebuild Santa Rosa I.S.D. into a pillar of transparency in the community. Something the community can be proud of,” Maddox said.
Last week, two former employees were arrested and now face multiple charges including sexual assault of a child and an improper relationship between an educator and student.
Those arrests all sparking concern in the community.
Maddox says right now the district is working with law enforcement to try to bring safety and security to students and ease the minds of parents.
“We’re going to continue taking every step that needs to be taken and implement a no tolerance policy for this kind of behavior,” he said.
The district is enforcing a policy requiring a report to be filed immediately if allegations against an employee emerge.
Maddox says the superintendent and school board members are keeping their channels of communication open to the public
“As a district, we need to come together as a district. We need to explore and execute methods of prevention for the future and we need to rebuild into that pillar of confidence and transparency in the community that we all can be,” Maddox said.
The district says some information must be kept confidential because of the ongoing investigation, but officials are open to sharing with the public once they are cleared to do so.
