Sandpiper Pavillion complete

Local News

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Starting today, visitors can now visit the newly constructed Sandpiper Pavilion at Isla Blanca Park.

The county park now includes a lit beachfront boardwalk, restrooms, and an ADA compliant dune walk over. Unique to the project, the site is constructed approximately 200 feet away from the shore to help conserve the dunes and natural resources.

“It called for us to improve it. We were lacking quite a bit so now we have the opportunity to bring this up to standard and beyond.” Says Sofia Benavides, Cameron County Commissioner for precinct one.

The new addition is part of a 19-million-dollar investment from Cameron County.

Completion of the neighboring DJ Lerma Pavilion is expected in the upcoming weeks.
