San Benito Police investigate fraud charges involving Mission area man

SAN BENITO – In a press release from the city of San Benito, authorities are investigating 10 reported cases of fraud involving a Mission area businessman.

“San Benito Police detectives are currently conducting an investigation into alleged fraud by the
reported suspect, who is said to have had a businesses located here,” according to Interim Police
Chief Fred Bell.

“We will be meeting with the Cameron County District Attorney’s office tomorrow (Thursday, June 11) to further discuss the case involving the fraud charges,” he added.

The claims include statements from the complainants that the suspect took money from the victims, but failed to live up to his agreement to build the victims’ new homes, said the city’s press release.

“Since June 2, 2020 the San Benito Police has received 10 separate cases of possible fraud when
the victims started coming forward,” said Interim Chief Bell.

This is an ongoing investigation and San Benito Police said they cannot comment further on the status of the case.
