Thousands of students from across the Rio Grande Valley are recognized for their commitment to reading.

It is part of the IDEA Public School’s “Royal Readers Celebration.” The qualified students each read a minimum of one million to three million words throughout the school year. And they score at least 85% on all accelerated reader quizzes.

Pablo Mejia – Vice President of Program Innovation, “Reading is the key to success in life. Reading is the key to success in college. Volume of reading and understanding of what you’re reading is so important. When our students read a lot, when they understand clearly what they’re reading and are successful in creating, that’s going to set them up for success in college. We want to celebrate that, we want to celebrate that in all of our students from first grade all the way up to our middle school and high school kids”

During the IDEA Royal Readers Celebration, renowned author, Jewel Parker Rhodes spoke to the students about what inspired her to become a writer and become passionate about reading.
