Expect traffic delays if you’re traveling to the Brownsville – South Padre Island International Airport. Parts of Billy Mitchell Boulevard will be closed this week as construction of a new terminal continues. The airport is in the process of constructing a 91,000 square foot facility to replace the existing passenger terminal.
Right now, crews working on the foundation of the new building along with corresponding parking.
Bryant Walker – Brownsville SPI International Airport, “If you’re dropping off passengers or picking up passengers and you need to come directly to the terminal, you’re going to be going through a new diversion road, which is off of Billy Mitchell, right next to the construction site. That’s a new loop road that we’ve added to the project.”
The Brownsville airport will continue to operate with the same flight schedules during construction. The new facility is expecting completion in late 2020.
