Rio Grande City school district Superintendent Joel Trigo Jr. resigned Wednesday.

Trigo resigned during a board meeting Wednesday afternoon.

“After meditation and deep evaluation of my priorities at this time in my life, I’ve decided to step down and offer my services to the district in a different capacity,” according to a video of the board meeting obtained by CBS 4 News. “I want to thank the board for giving me the opportunity of serving as superintendent.”

The meeting agenda included “Discussion Regarding Re-Assignment of Joel Trigo, Jr., to Director for Student Services.”

Neither Trigo nor board President Daniel J. Garcia could be reached for comment after the meeting.
