RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas – On Thursday, Nov. 21, Rio Grande City Police Dispatch received a call around 4:38 p.m. about a 2-year-old that had fainted at Babineaux Pediatric Care Clinic located in the 200 block of Chaparral Boulevard.

Authorities say the girl was taken to the doctor’s office after her parents reported that the toddler had been suffering from symptoms that included fever and vomiting.

Nurses at the doctor’s office immediately began administering CPR. The fire department says that upon arrival the child was unresponsive (no pulse), but they too tried to resuscitate the little girl prior to the arrival of the ambulance.

The ambulance transported the toddler to the Starr County Memorial hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

The Rio Grande City Police Department is investigating, but at this time no foul play is suspected.
