Rio Grande City man killed in crash in Ector County, 3 others injured

A Rio Grande City man is dead, and three others are in the hospital following a Christmas Day crash in Ector County, Texas.

According to Texas DPS, the crash happened about 3 miles west of the City of Odessa on Interstate 20, just after 2:15 a.m.

Troopers said a preliminary investigation revealed a 2018 Ford F-150, driven by Alberto Z. De La Torre, 34, of Rio Grande City was traveling east in the westbound lane of Interstate 20 and collided head-on with a 2003 Ford F-250 that was traveling west.

Authorities said De La Torre was pronounced dead on the scene. According to the report, De La Torre was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

Three people in the F-250, Alfredo Renteria-Soto, 49, and Erasmo Renteria-Soto, 53, both from Pampa, and Maria G. Renteria, 60, of Chicago, Illinois, were all taken to Medical Center Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS.
