Christmas tree recycling locations in the RGV

Looking to recycle your Christmas tree or other items? Several cities are offering recycling options.

Here’s a list of current locations:

MCALLEN

The City of McAllen is accepting all-natural Christmas trees. The trees MUST be free of all décor and tinsel.

Drop off locations:

McAllen Recycling Center
4101 N. Bentsen Rd.
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Saturday – 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Composting Facility

15201 N. 29th Street (Rooth Road)
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.

EDINBURG

The City of Edinburg is accepting Christmas trees for recycling.

All trees must be completely bare of all ornaments, lights, tinsel, flocking and stands must be removed.

Trees placed curbside with regular trash starting on Jan. 6 – Jan. 24, 2020.

Edinburg Recycling Center

Monday – Friday – 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Edinburg Regional Landfill
8601 N. Jasman Rd.
Monday – Friday – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Edinburg Service Center
1201 S. Doolittle Rd.
Monday – Friday – 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND

Christmas trees can be dropped every Saturday between the hours of 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. from Dec. 28, 2019, to Feb. 8, 2020, at 4501 Padre Boulevard. 

South Padre Island residents may place their tree curbside anytime until Feb. 8, 2020. 

All trees must have ornaments, lights, nails, and tree stands removed before recycling. 

All recycled trees will be turned into mulch that can be used in gardens to safeguard plants from winter weather. 

Mulch will be available for free on a first-come, first-served basis at the City of Port Isabel Public Works Department, located at 217 W. Hickman, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Please bring your own tools and storage containers for loading and transporting the mulch.
