U.S. Customs and Border Protection caught the same man with two different marijuana loads last week, according to the criminal complaint against him.

Alberto Cruz arrived at the Sarita checkpoint Thursday with 44 pounds of marijuana packed in his luggage, according to the criminal complaint.

The dust-up with Border Patrol apparently didn’t deter him.

Just two days later, Cruz arrived at the Donna bridge driving a 2001 Ford Windstar van.

“An X-ray examination of the van showed anomalies of the passenger’s side door and the rear wheel wall area,” according to the criminal complaint. “CBP Officers inspected the area in question. Inspection of the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 63 packages of marijuana, weighing 44.74 kilograms.”

The packages weighed nearly 99 pounds — more than double the amount intercepted at Sarita, according to the criminal complaint.

Cruz was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance and unlawfully importing a controlled substance.

Court records don’t list an attorney for Cruz, who remains in federal custody.
