PSJA Southwest and the City of Pharr kicked off International Week festivities Tuesday with an educational panel focused on dual language and international opportunities.
A release stated the panel of speakers included representatives from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, South Texas College, Texas Workforce Commission, Pharr Economic Development Corporation, as well as principals from PSJA Southwest feeder schools.
“Something unique about our school cluster is we offer three languages: English, Spanish and now Mandarin Chinese,” said Ranulfo Marquez, Principal at PSJA Southwest Early College High School. “We’re very oriented toward international business and learning. We have a partnership with UTRGV that helps promote what they’re doing which is similar, so we’re becoming a pipeline for UTRGV that provides not only to that university but to all colleges that our students go to.”
School officials said the festivities will end with the 2020 Lunar Year Festival at the Pharr Events Center on Friday at 5:30 p.m. The event will feature multicultural food, music, arts, and crafts. Special performances by student groups and remarks from Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District and City of Pharr leaders will also take place.
