PHARR, Texas – The Pharr-San Juan- Alamo ISD announced a way to continue providing coordinated support for students and families following the effects of COVID-19.

On June 8, 2020 the school board passed a policy thay offered students and families, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) with wraparound services.

A wraparound service is a process that focuses on individualized care management for children with specific needs.

The district-wide policy will require each campus to create a team that focuses on addressing the non-academic needs of students as a way to keep the district’s families and students at the center and focus on the whole-child, said the district.

Services include mental health, community and social resources, as well as, recreational, cultural and spiritual resources, relationship skills, legal and safety tools, and crisis support.

The district began offering the services in March 2020 such as PSJA Meals-On-The-Go, Counselor-led SEL support and lessons, PSJA Telehealth counseling services for students and families and the Emotional & Wellness Video Series, which offers webinars by PSJA expert counselors and staff on how to better cope with the current situation.

The district said they will officially launch the program in August 2020 for the 2020-2021 academic school year.
