Hundreds rocked their 50’s outfits for the Centennial Sock Hop Dance last week in Pharr.

The event saw over 650 Pharr-San Juan-Alamo ISD alumni, parents and staff celebrate the district’s 100-year legacy during the 2019-2020 School year.

The event had free admission and featured community members and PSJA ISD alumni from several classes that drove from near and far to attend. Classes who attended included: 1944, 1958, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1971, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1985, 1986, 1988 and 2013.

“Thank you to everyone who joined us,” said Jesus “Jesse” Vela, Jr., a PSJA School Board Member and PSJA Class of 1966 Alum, in a press release. “You all have been instrumental in shaping the legacy of PSJA.”

We’re told this is just the second event to celebrate the 100-year legacy. The next event will be the PSJA Centennial 5K/10K Run/Walk happening on November 16 at the PSJA Stadium.

The race is open to everyone and will feature once-in-a-lifetime medals and shirts.
