MISSION, Texas – A private border wall construction is stopped near the National Butterfly Center after a judge grants the association a temporary restraining order against the campaign “We Build the Wall”.
It began as a GoFundMe page to help the government pay for the proposed border wall. However, the U.S. Government is unable to accept the $25 million donated to the campaign. The group then planned to build their own three miles of wall on the banks of the Rio Grande.
The National Butterfly Center’s lawyer put a stop to that plan saying there aren’t any proper permits in place for this private border wall to be built.
Javier Pena, attorney, “That construction will cause damage whenever it floods. We’ve been getting some severe floods in the past several years. It will redirect the flood waters from any storms, hurricanes, or severe weather events onto the neighboring properties which the Butterfly Center is a neighboring property. It’s not as simple as having a little bit of water run onto the property, they’re going to have loss of vegetation loss of soil.”
The TRO is valid for two weeks.
