BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Local officials in the medical field are raising awareness to hygiene and health education in response to the coronavirus.
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is sharing basic information on how to prevent the spread of viruses. Some precautions include frequent hand washing, following cough etiquette and accurately reporting information to your doctor. As of now, no coronavirus cases have been reported in the state of Texas
Experts tell Local 23 News, most locally reported cases are likely a common cold or the flu.
Dr. Jose Campo Maldonado, Infectious Disease Specialist at UTRGV, “It would be more likely to be that unless you have traveled to that area, where there is transmission of the virus, or you have been in contact with someone who is known to have the infection with that coronavirus.”
Dr. Maldonado adds that the region has discussed plans for infectious disease with regional and local health departments.
