Police Urge Public to Properly Dispose of Discarded Gift Boxes

Local News

The Brownsville Police Department wants to remind you to be careful when getting rid of those gift boxes.

The boxes of those newly acquired TV’s and game systems can make you a target of burglary as they’re displayed in your garbage bins.

Manuel Montes, Brownsville Police Department says, “You try to put it all together and first time around it’s going to overflow so you’re going to advertise the boxes that are there, your Xbox, your Nintendo, your PS4. It’s recommended to cut it up into small pieces where it fits in the trash can and you can actually close your trash can so it’s not easily visible. Criminals are just waiting for that opportunity.”

If you are not shredding your own gift boxes, another option for you is to take them to the nearest recycling center.
