Police: Man found dead at Stripes store in Brownsville

Local News

A man died Friday after shopping at a Stripes convenience store on Coffee Port Road — and nobody noticed for nearly four hours, according to a news release from the Brownsville Police Department.

At about 1:30 p.m. Friday, 43-year-old Jose Octavio Llorente parked a gray Pontiac G6 near the Stripes at 4100 Coffee Port Road, according to the news release.

Llorente entered the Stripes and bought something, according to the news release. He returned to the Pontiac, but the car never left the parking lot.

At about 5:14 p.m., a passerby noticed Llorente wasn’t moving and called police. Officers found Llorente dead in the car.

“There were no visible injuries that were present or any signs that a struggle had occurred,” according to the news release. “There are no suspicious circumstances that would indicate foul play in this investigation.”

Justice of the Peace Jonathan Gracia ordered an autopsy.
