Plastic surgeons across the Rio Grande Valley donated their personal protective equipment to those on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic as non-essential surgeries were temporarily stopped.

As part of phase one to re-open Texas, medical practices are allowed to re-open.

Dr. Luis Rios, President of the Texas Society of Plastic Surgeons, says there are now new guidelines plastic surgeons need to take.

“Some of the things that we have to do so that if we operate…we need to use face shields,” said Dr. Rios. “If we are in the operating room we also have to masks like this n-95 mask…to make it safer for people that are operating”

Dr. Rios says now that plastic surgery offices are back open, they will be using safety measures such as screen questionnaires and temperature checks.
