Local News

Police are asking for the public’s help in finding three suspects involved in an aggravated robbery last week.

Police reported that 16-year-old, Gerardo Rodriguez, who was shot during the incident died on March 19 from the injuries sustained during the robbery.

Investigators say the teen was visiting his uncle, when the three armed robbers invaded the 48-year-old man’s home. Police are still investigating if suspects took money from the victims, or other belongings.
Currently they are on the look out for two vehicles used during the robbery.

Michael J. Mendoza – Pharr Police said, “There were three suspects and two vehicles that were used. One was a Ford Focus hatchback and the second one was a small PC red in color.

The teenager’s identity was confirmed to us by his soccer coach. He heard the news from the victim’s twin brother. He and other teammates at McAllen Memorial High School say Rodriguez was a good person with hopes of making the varsity team very soon.

Francisco Guerrero – Teammate, “He was a really great guy. To many of us here in the soccer team he was a really great goalie since we were in middle school until now.

Axel Figueroa – Friend of Gerardo Rodriguez, “He was a really good friend. He was very nice.”

Eduardo Calderon – Soccer Coach said, “Great kid. Hard worker. We’re going to miss him a lot.”

Police say the teen’s uncle has been released from the hospital, and they will continue investigating this case.

Anybody with information on the whereabouts of the suspects is encouraged to call the crime stoppers.
