PHARR, Texas – Exciting news from the Texas Education Agency involving one Valley elementary school.
Kelly-Pharr Elementary from PSJA ISD has been nominated for a 2020 National Blue Ribbon School. The school was nominated as an Exemplary Achievement Gap Closing school and is one of only 26 schools in Texas nominated and the only school from the Valley.
Dr. Jorge Luis Arredondo, superintendent, “We’re just super excited and proud of all the dedication that the community, the parents, the teachers and the students, principal. Everybody here has worked very hard over the years and have shown great progress, great dedication to the academics.”
Lydia Trevino, school principal, “Everybody working as a team and knowing that our students are at the forefront of everything that we do. It is kind of like a tap on our shoulder and it resonates with us that we are doing something right and we are working towards our students and were so excited.”
Nominated schools will complete a rigorous application processed by the U.S. Department of Education. Winners will be announced at a September ceremony in Washington, D.C.
