Authorities identify passenger killed in two vehicle crash in Cameron County

UPDATE: The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified a passenger who was killed in a two vehicle crash in Cameron County. 

The passenger has been identified as Jaden Cuevas, 14, from Harlingen. 


One person is dead following a two vehicle crash in Cameron County on Monday night.

DPS Troopers said the accident occurred just after 7:15 p.m. on FM 106 and Cemetary Road, near the Port of Harlingen – Cameron County.

Troopers said a preliminary investigation revealed that a white Freightliner truck tractor tanker trailer was stopped facing west preparing to make a left turn onto Cemetary Road.

That’s when, according to officials, the driver of the Freightliner failed to yield the right of way and collided with a white Ford Ranger traveling east on FM 106.

Authorities said a passenger in the Ford Ranger was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Ford Ranger was taken to Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen with possible injuries. The driver of the Freightliner wasn’t injured.

The crash remains under investigation by Texas DPS.

The passengers name has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
