51-year-old man charged in Donna shooting

Hernandez-Ovalle is charged with murder; criminal attempted murder of multiple people, a second-degree felony; criminal attempted capital murder, a first-degree felony. A judge set his bond at $1,750,000.

Officers arrested a 51-year-old man Wednesday who is accused of fatally shooting another man in a drug-related incident. 

On Monday, officers responded to a one-vehicle crash on the eastbound lane of the 200 block of W. Frontage Road.

Upon arrival, police found that a man had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. Emergency Medical Services transported the man to the hospital where he later died, according to a news release from the Donna Police Department.  

On Wednesday, investigators located a suspect vehicle and identified the shooter as Benito Hernández-Ovalle. 

Further investigation revealed that the two men knew each other and the shooting was drug-related, according to Captain Rick Suarez. Investigators believe Hernández-Ovalle shot at the victim’s car while the victim was driving.
