New K-9 Officer Scores Drug Bust on First Day of Work

Local News

It was a big first day on the job for the Alamo Police Department’s new K-9 officer.

Three people are in custody after K-9 Officer “Roni” seized a duffel bag full of narcotics and bundles of U.S. Currency. The bust occurred as the one-year-old K-9 was on his way to be introduced at the police department. Alamo Police stopped a 2013 Chevy Silverado truck a block away from the station. Officers say they stopped the vehicle for a routine traffic violation. It was then they discovered the drugs and money.

Roni’s handler, Officer Garcia, said this about his training.

“He’s been through similar scenarios. We went through live searches when we were there. He can be familiar with scenarios he’s going to be in. We did stay in the woods for a couple of days.”

Roni just graduated on August 17 from the academy. He was donated to the Alamo Police Department by the PSJA ISD. He is the first K-9 officer for the city of Alamo.
