The National Weather Service is celebrating 150 years in alerting the public this week.

Barry Goldsmith with the National Weather Service in Brownsville said the National Weather Service’s goal is to build a ‘Weather-Ready’ nation.

“Weather-Ready Nation allows everybody to understand what all this stuff means. There are three parts of the Weather-Ready Nation that we’re working on now and I think they’ll hold together for a long time to come.”

Goldsmith said they’re looking to have the nation ready, responsive, and resilient when it comes to weather situations.
