This weekend the National Parks Service is offering free admission to all national parks.
It’s part of National Parks Week.
The Rio Grande Valley is home to one national park, Palo Alto Battlefield.
Unlike some parks, admission is free year-round at the Brownsville battlefield.
Superintendent Mark Spier says, “Palo Alto Battlefield had a record for visitation last year. We had 58,600 visitors and that is very important for a community like Brownsville because those visitors spend money. We just got the economic impact figures this week.
Estimates say Palo Alto generated over 4 million dollars for the local economy. You can see more of this economic impact report on https://www.nps.gov/subjects/socialscience/vse.htm
