HARLINGEN, Texas- With Governor Greg Abbott’s announcement yesterday that hair and nail salons can open their doors on Friday, many are now getting ready to open up their businesses.
Lisa Mendez, the owner of Polished Nail Salon in Harlingen is preparing for their big opening.
She has already started marking up the floors for social distancing and disinfecting the salon.
Mendez tells us what precautions she’s taking to keep her customers safe.
“We’re taking temperatures, we’re asking questions to the customer, we’re making them sterilize their hands before even opening the door to come into the salon, then after that they have to wash their hands even before they get into picking a color,” said Mendez.
There are many guidelines nail salons have to follow in order to remain open, including one customer per nail technician and staying 6 feet apart from others.
Even with all these precautions, Mendez is concerned that people won’t be honest about any symptoms they may have.
“I need you to come, tell me the truth, come for your service, we’ll have all the precautions,” said Mendez. “I just hope that people are not out if they have any symptoms or they have been in contact with anybody that has them.”
Customers will be getting their temperatures checked before walking into the salon. Mendez said anyone reading a temperature of 100 or higher will be asked to reschedule after 14 days.
