Music used to help prevent Alzheimer’s disease

BROWNSVILLE, Texas – A community outreach program looking to combat Alzheimer’s disease and healthy brain activity with music.

The UTRGV School of Medicine and the Mexican Consulate team up for a public session meant to boost brain activity in senior citizens. Their goal is to inform and spread awareness to degenerative illnesses and how to stay healthy.

Dr. Gladys Maestre, Professor of Biomedical Sciences – UTRGV, “Everybody is afraid of aging with certain diseases, but one aspect that everybody wants to do is to keep themselves and keeping their memory.”

The professor says a key exercise in keeping brain activity healthy is to not only listening to older songs, but also singing out loud to see how much you really remember.
