Mother of Former Conjoined Twins Speaks About Their Surgery and Recovery

Local News

The Brownsville mother of two conjoined sisters who underwent major surgeries in a Corpus Christi hospital talks about the family’s long journey.

The twins were finally sent home after several months of doctor’s care. The complicated surgery to separate the sisters happened at Driscoll Children’s Hospital while the family stayed at the Ronald McDonald house.

Ximena and Scarlett Hernandez-Torres are recovering well and now back home. Mother Sylvia Torres says she’s happy with the results.

“They’re going to have more surgeries in the future. Maybe in two years or more, we’ll know if it’s going to be okay, because we have God in our hearts. Well they love to dance. They love to dance. They always dance to Selena. They really like Selena.”

This was Driscoll’s Children Hospital first operation on conjoined twins. 45 medical professionals assisted in the risky procedure.
