A 23-year-old mother is behind bars, following the death of her 14 month old boy.
As News Center 23 first reported, 27-year-old Freddy Armando Muñiz was charged with capital murder earlier this week. Muñiz is the boyfriend of the victim’s mother.
23-year-old Kassandra Alvarez Ramos was arraigned at the Hidalgo County Jail.
She’s charged with injury to a child by omission, a first degree felony.
The suspect was arrested yesterday, and her bond was set at $200,000.
Investigators say Ramos had sent text messages to her friends saying that her boyfriend would assault the child. When she was re-interviewed by investigators, she stated that her boyfriend punched the child on several occasions.
J.P. Rodriguez, Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer, “Our investigators had sufficient evidence to charge her with injury to a child by omission. We know that she had knowledge of what was happening with her child. Initially when she took her child to the hospital, she reported that the child had gotten injured by falling on the trampoline. Which we believe was not the case. An autopsy performed by the county’s forensic pathologist showed the cause of death was blunt force trauma on the child.”
If her case is taken to trial and she’s found guilty, Ramos can face up to life in prison, including a fine of up to $10,000.
