Mission woman killed in two vehicle crash in Cameron County

A Mission woman is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Cameron County on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Texas DPS, the crash occurred on FM 510, west of Casey Road, just after 12:30 p.m.

Texas DPS said a preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a Gold 2001 Lincoln Navigator failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway, lost control of the vehicle and veered onto the eastbound lane where it crashed head-on with a white 2008 Toyota.

A passenger in the Toyota, Hermelinda Villegas, 57, of Mission, was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Four other people, three people in the Lincoln Navigator and one person in the Toyota, were taken to the hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.
