A Mission teacher is behind bars after turning herself in on charges of improper relationship between an educator and a student.

Edna Mabel Longoria turned herself into authorities on Thursday.

According to a release, Veterans Memorial High School administrators notified school officers about an allegation.

Authorities said, “it was alleged that one of their teachers, identified as Edna Mabel Longoria, was possibly engaging in a sexual relationship with a student.”

In a statement, the victim reported that the relationship has been occurring since Feb. 22, 2019.

Police said the victim also provided additional evidence in the form of messages exchanged between him and Longoria that were inappropriate and contained material of sexual nature.

A warrant was later issued for Longoria.

Bond for Longoria was set at $50,000 and taken to the Hidalgo County Jail.

The school district has confirmed that Longoria is on administrative leave.
