HARLINGEN, Texas — Culture of Life Ministries has teamed up with Dr. Peter Lazzopina to offer telemedicine to families in need of medical check-ups during the shelter-in-place orders.
The non-profit faith-based medical center knew families could miss out on check-ups and prescriptions.
“Well as you know moms are now homeschooling three or four kids,” said Young Life Area Director Joe Wilson.
Wilson reached out to Dr. Lazzopina because of his tech-based doctor appointments.
“[I] woke up and said we can put two and two together here.”
Two weeks ago, the duo reached out to community members and quickly found volunteers to assist with calls, appointments and scheduling.
“[If] they can’t reach the regular doctor [and] the doctor isn’t offering telemedicine, they can call in and get things taken care of,” explained Dr. Lazzopina “they’re wondering if they have COVID-19, they can talk to me about those things.”
To receive a consultation, Dr. Lazzopina sends patients to their website.
Just like at an in-person doctor’s visit, patients fill out paperwork on medical history, prescribed medications and reason for the visit.
