Millions of dollars in disaster relief granted

MCALLEN, Texas – Millions of dollars have made their way to Hidalgo County for disaster relief.

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez presenting a $193 million check to Hidalgo County officials.The money is expected to help homeowners whose homes were under water during the recent floods. Along with businesses and building infrastructure across the county to prevent future damage, according to officials.

“It’s a new program of mitigation funds. They’re going to be setting up websites, outreaches in the community, to small businesses, to county and state officials to see where the funds need to be allocated. The non-profit organizations, everybody who is in the opportunity to receive these funds need to apply. Our office is here to help.” Said the congressman.

The funds are expected to be allocated within the next six months.
