Mexican Consulate Helping DACA Students with Application Fee

Local News

The Mexican Consulate in McAllen is helping more than 40 DACA students with their application fee.

Eduardo Bernal Martinez says he will cover the $495 fee for some students. Depending on their economic status. If a student has a part time job or other aid, he will cover half. This would allow DACA students to work and travel freely within the United States for another two years. He says he wants students to know they are not alone and that the Mexican government is working for them.

“They want to be here. They came here when they were children and half of them don’t speak Spanish. They understand everything, but they don’t speak. They want to stay here. Their friends are here, their families are here. Their life is here and they’re good people. They serve this country.”

Martinez says he will continue to provide aid for low income students renewing DACA.
