MERCEDES, Texas — As crews continue to drain out water, some of it is going into residents’ homes.
“Where is the water coming from? Because as it stops raining after. A couple hours the water starts rising, so where is the water coming from,” Mercedes resident Rick Delgado said. As he glanced over the flood waters that took over his property.
He says it’s been four days since the water took over and he wants answers.
“I’ve lost chicken, I’ve lost sheep my horses are up in the corner because it’s the highest place I could keep them,” he added.
His property is located along FM 1015. He says it’s a no-flood zone. So we reached out to precinct 1 for answers.
“We saw that the canal breached so all the the water is going to that part of the zone that includes, that property.,” Pepe Cabeza De Vaca, assistant chief of Staff for Pct. 1 said over a phone interview. “Right now, we are trying to get the water out so we can pump out water from that property and those next to it.”
Cabeza de Vaca says pct.1 is preparing for possible flooding that may occur with storms.
