Mercedes Early College Academy ranks high in 2020 U.S. News & World Report list

MERCEDES, Texas – According to the U.S. News & World Report, Mercedes Early College Academy (MECA) is ranked high as a 2020 Best High School. The designation comes for ranking in the top 40 percent among the nation’s public schools. 

U.S. News & World Report ranked nearly 18,000 public schools nationwide for its annual listing. MECA ranked 2,896 in the United States, 253 in Texas and 21 in the McAllen metro area. 

The rankings are generally determined by a school’s overall score and a score is based on five factors:

  • Took at Least One AP Exam
  • Passed at Least One AP Exam
  • Mathematics Proficiency
  • Reading Proficiency and Graduate Rate.

MECA received an overall score of 83.72 out of 100 points.

The report also said, the ranking is further determined by a school’s percentage of minority students and economically disadvantaged students. For MECA, the percentages are 100 and 87, respectively.
