Local News

Educators in the RGV are being recognized by one of the state’s biggest grocery companies for their dedication and commitment to student success.

A group of H-E-B representatives made a quick visit to Woodrow Wilson Elementary in McAllen. The reason, to surprise a third grade teacher with a $1,000 check.

Kristi Rogers is one of three teachers in the entire valley that was selected as a finalist for the ‘2017 Excellence in Education Awards’. Rogers says this honor is a product of all the hard work her students do.

“For me, it just shows that you work hard, you do the best that you can, and you give it all that you have and good things come out of it. The students are worth it. We work hard every day and the reward is them, and this is just a little icing on the cake.”

All finalists will be invited to San Antonio. There they will compete with other educators across the state for bigger cash prizes.
