A group of McAllen city leaders and other companies traveled south of the border.
All to give their Mexican counterparts a little of what McAllen has to offer. The city is also working closely with an airline that flies directly to Mexico City in hopes of boosting the economy.
Mayor Jim Darling, “We’re going to do a project with each one of them. With people coming here and also people going south. You know one of the things we lost to a certain degree, with the violence and the border, and Mexico was people coming to McAllen and going to spend a great weekend in Mexico. Going to the mercado on Saturday.”
The partnership between McAllen and Aero-Mar Airlines is the newest way the city hopes to bring tourism back.
