MCALLEN — To support local business in this tough time, McAllen Public Utility (MPU) will waive wastewater surcharges until July 2020 for locally-owned restaurants.

According to a release, wastewater surcharges are collected to compensate for the extra treatment that is conducted due to excess grease or industrial waste collected into the wastewater systems and treated at the wastewater treatment plant.

Businesses are still recommended to clean their grease trap as grease accumulation can lead to possible clogging issues.
