McAllen Public Utility assuring public that water is safe for consumption

MCALLEN, Texas – In light of concerns about the spread of the corona virus and many stocking up on supplies, officials from McAllen Public Utility assuring residents tap water is safe to drink.

Officials say treatment process of water puts it through a rigorous process which does not allow COVID-19 or any other virus to survive. They say this is true not only for McAllen utilities, but that of all of the RGV municipalities.

In this time of uncertainty, officials say the public can rest easy knowing their tap water is safe for consumption and general use. There is no need to create panic and chaos by stockpiling bottled water.

J.J. Rodriguez, Assistant GM, McAllen Public Utilities, “For everyday washing, bathing cooking, everything we do on a daily basis, our portable water is very cheap, very affordable. We encourage the public to look at that as a real option and not worry about reliability.”

Officials with the utility also say their water testing exceeds TCEQ and EPA requirements on a daily basis.
