McAllen Police Chief comments on former officers use of excessive force

Local News

In case you missed it, two McAllen Police Officers will no longer be part of the force after allegedly assaulting a 23 year old man during a DWI arrest. The officers stopped Aaron Soto after he was seen driving against traffic on a one way street. During the arrest, Soto allegedly spat on Officer Luis Zuniga’s face.

Officer Ulysses Bautista then kicked Soto while he was handcuffed on the ground. Police Chief Victor Rodriguez released a statement that reads in part, “These are serious breaches of trust, duty and professional responsibility.”

Officer Bautista was fired last week but he’s already filed an appeal to keep his job. Officer Zuniga has resigned from the force effective September 9th.
