McAllen Parks & Recreation summer programs suspended at community centers

MCALLEN – The McAllen Parks & Recreation Department announced effective Monday, June 29, all regularly scheduled McAllen Parks & Recreation Department Community Center programs will be suspended until further notice, including senior living, youth and adult programs.

The city also said the McAllen Nature Center will be closed until further notice and athletic & aquatic facilities will remain closed. In the meantime, department staff will remain prepared to welcome back all participants as soon as it is deemed appropriate.

The city strongly urges citizens to take precautions to protect their health and safety such as frequently washing their hands for at least 20 seconds, avoid touching their face with unwashed hands, and covering their noses and mouths when sneezing or coughing.

All City of McAllen parks and public restrooms will remain open. The city adds that patrons are encouraged to continue visiting parks, as regular exercise is essential to physical and mental well-being.
