McAllen man convicted on murder charges commits suicide

A McAllen man who was convicted on murder charges has killed himself.

Juan Manuel Vasquez Hernandez was sentenced to 86 years in prison for killing Maria Alisa Garza, his mother’s home health care provider.

According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Custodial Death Report, Hernandez was found in his cell on October 31 with a torn cloth ligature around his neck.

The report stated that the ligature was cut by staff and CPR was immediately started.

EMS then took Hernandez to the hospital where he was declared dead by medical staff.
