McAllen Kids Marathon Final Mile Run set for Saturday

Local News

MCALLEN, Texas – In its six year history the McAllen Kids Marathon has benefited thousands of Rio Grande Valley children.

Some McAllen ISD students kicked off this event back in September. Since then they have ran enough miles to put them on track to complete a full 26.2 mile marathon with Saturday’s run. The event is free and open to all children from Pre-Kinder through 8th grade and will take place at the McAllen Convention Center.

Dr. J.A. Gonzalez, McAllen ISD Superintendent, “It’s about the kid. It’s about the city and it’s about encouraging wellness throughout. It is about the kids but it’s more about creating this culture of taking care of yourself from a physical standpoint from a nutrition standpoint.”

Dr. Gonzalez also adding he is very proud of the work the district does in partnership with the city in creating events like this. Final mile participants will receive a t-shirt and a medal.
